The Benin Traditional Council (BTC), has urged the public to disregard a viral video which alleged that Oba of Benin, Oba Ewaure II, spoke ill of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Given clarification on the alleged report, the BTC in a statement issued today by its Secretary, Frank Irabor, described as untrue a purported video clip shared on social media by one Mr Eranomigho Edegbe alleging that the monarch insulted President Buhari.

The monarch again berated aspersions cast on the former National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and Captain Hosa Okunbo, in the same video clip. Irabor revealed that President Buhari and the Oba of Benin had for long built a good relationship dates back to when the president was the head of the Petroleum Trust Fund, PTF.

“His Royal Majesty wishes to categorically and irrevocably clear that the video and the contents making rounds on social media therein was not commissioned nor was it encouraged by the Oba,” he said.

The Oba of Benin condemned all claims by Edegbe, noting that Comrade Oshiomhole has always remained loyal to the Benin Palace contrary to the speculation.

He said, “We condemn in the strongest terms the malicious attacks on the integrity of President Buhari and all other persons whom the video seeks to malign. Our love for the President is unparalleled as the cordial relationship dates back to days of late Oba Erediauwa, the immediate past Oba of Benin, which extended to the present monarch.

“We also wish to state that Oshiomhole has always respected, not just the traditional institutions in Edo, but also the Palace of the Oba of Benin.”

“Oshimhole’s affection for our father who adopted the comrade as a son is well known. Capt. Hosa Okunbo is an illustrious son of the Palace of the Oba of Benin, hence, there can be nothing but goodwill towards him,” Irabor reiterates.

Meanwhile, the leader of INRI Evangelical spiritual church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has again warned the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari to be careful in toying with the dreadful Coronavirus pandemic.
