The Niger Republic has recorded the first case of coronavirus, making it the 36th out of 54 African nation to record a case of the virus.

This was announced in a statement by the Health Ministry of the country which identified the victim as a man working for a transport company.

Naija News learnt that he travelled to Niamey, the Nigerien capital from the Ghanaian capital Accra, passing through Abidjan in Ivory Coast and Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso.

However, the ministry noted that the patient is in a stable condition.

The continent has now recorded more than 700 cases and at least 17 deaths, according to the World Health Organisation.

Recall that the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate closure of tertiary institutions and unity schools across the nation as a measure to check coronavirus in Nigeria.

The country also shut down three international airports in the country as a measure to check coronavirus in Nigeria.
