Man Arrested For Killing Bat In OAU Campus

OAU Announces Resumption Date, Cancels 2020/2021 Session

An Osun State Magistrates Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Tuesday arraigned a 40-year-old man known as Femi Afolabi for allegedly killing a bat on the campus of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

Afolabi was charged on a count of breach of the public peace in the institution.

According to the police prosecutor, Adewale Adesina, the offendant committed the offense on January 13, 2020, around 9 am on the campus.

He said further that Afolabi’s act is likely to cause a breach of the public peace when he entered the campus and killed a bat with a catapult without permission.

He said, the offence contravenes Section 249 (d) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

Afolabi, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

His counsel, Samuel Obi, applied for bail on behalf of his client.

The magistrate admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

She then adjourned the case till February 11, 2020, for further hearing.
