Air France on Wednesday suspended flying through Iranian and Iraqi airspace after Iran fired ballistic missiles against bases housing United States troops in Iraq.

“As a precautionary measure and following news of air strikes underway, Air France has decided to suspend until further notice all flights through Iranian and Iraqi airspace,” an Air France spokesman told Nigeria News.

Naija News had earlier reported that more than a dozen missiles were fired by Iran at two Iraqi military bases hosting US troops.

It was gathered that the missiles targeted the Ain al-Assad base in Anbar province and a facility near Erbil’s airport in northern Iraq very early this morning.

They were fired in retaliation for the killing of top Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani by the US, Iran said.

Recall that Iran had threatened a retaliation attack on the US, following the death of Solemani.

The US has since the attack recalled its citizens in Iran home, while Trump also threatened Iraq with sanctions if it sends its troops home.
