The decision of President Muhammadu Buhari to seek amendments to the 2020 budget by sending proposals to the National Assembly might be referred to as budget Padding on the path of the lawmaker

Naija News Understands that The President, who signed the N10.59trillion budget on tuesday, found that the was some frivolous addition to the 2020 budget as proposed by lawmakers.

After studying the additions, the president revealed that he is considering sending virement and amendments requests to the National Assembly soon for the ease of implementing the adjustments.

He said, “The 2020 budget passed by the National Assembly provides for aggregate expenditure of N10.59tn, an increase of N263.95bn over the executive’s proposal that was submitted in October 2019.”We have examined the adjustments and may revert to the National Assembly with a request for a virement or other relevant amendments.”

Meanwhile, Naija News recalls that in the 8th assembly, a  similar incident occurred and the president berated the lawmakers for manipulating the 2018 budget sent to them by cutting essential projects and inserting non-essential ones. Other top APC Chieftains, Cheif Bola Tinubu also berated the actions of lawmakers.
