The Arsenal squad are reportedly not in full support of Unai Emery’s decision to name Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as replacement of former captain Granit Xhaka.

Naija News reports that Xhaka threw his arms up in the air and cupped his ears after his substitution was greeted by boos during their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

He was also seen mouthing “f*** off” at the Arsenal fans and removed his shirt before storming down the tunnel.

This lead to Emery removing the Switzerland midfielder from The Gunners leadership group.

The Athletic reports that the some players within the squad, feel that the Swiss midfielder was “thrown under the bus” by Emery and do not support the choice of Aubameyang as his replacement.

Although the players were given the opportunity to vote on their captain after Laurent Koscielny left for Bordeaux, they were not consulted at all when Aubameyang was named skipper.

It was gathered that most members of the squad found out about Aubameyang’s captaincy during a press conference before their Europa League fixture against Vitoria.
