Former Arsenal Star Samir Nasri Questioned In French Money Laundering Investigation
Former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has reportedly been questioned by French police as part of a money laundering investigation linked to alleged organised drug trafficking.
According to French newspaper Le Parisien, via talkSPORT, the former France international spent around 10 hours in police custody before being released on Thursday.
The report said the 39-year-old was freed on the evening of July 9 without any charges being brought against him at this stage.
Nasri was questioned by officers from the Financial Investigation and Research Brigade (BRIF) of the Paris judicial police as investigators examined alleged links to Hakim Berrebouh, a convicted Marseille drug trafficker, and his associate, Olivier Sabbah.
Berrebouh, known by the nickname “Le Marcassin” (Wild Boar), is currently serving a prison sentence after being arrested in Dubai and extradited to France in 2021.
Investigators are said to be examining Nasri’s alleged connection through his former role as a shareholder in the Marseille nightclub XS.
Although he has been released without charge, the report said Nasri could be called back for further questioning and may still face possible indictment as the investigation continues.
Nasri began his professional career at Marseille before joining Arsenal in 2008. After three seasons in north London, he completed a controversial move to Manchester City, where he won two Premier League titles.
The former midfielder also earned 41 caps for France during an international career that spanned more than a decade.
