Sadiya Umar Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has confirmed the takeover of the Social Investment Programmes from the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.

Farouq noted that she had a meeting with the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Social Investment, Maryam Uwais, on the programme.

Until recently, the SIP was being coordinated by the office of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

There had been alleged crisis within the presidency with the cabal calling for the reduction of the power that resides with the Vice President, while some accused of mismanaging certain money used for SIP.

President Muhammadu Buhari, on his Independence Day broadcast, had announced that the newly-created ministry would be in charge of the scheme.

The minister tweeted, “NSIP manages Social Investment Programmes in Nigeria and it is presently under the purview of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development”.
