The Frenchman underwent an initial medical evaluation by Madrid officials in Paris this week and the transfer will go through after the latest round of international fixtures.
Mendy appeared in 30 Ligue 1 matches for Lyon last season, scoring two goals.

It is understood that negotiations between the two clubs have reached an advanced stage, with the 22-year-old currently valued at around €50 million ($56m, £44m).

Man Utd want Tielemans to replace Pogba
Manchester United will sign Youri Tielemans should Paul Pogba leave Old Trafford this summer according to The Independent.
Pogba has been heavily linked with a move away from United during the current window, with Real Madrid and Juventus heavily linked with the French midfielder.
Tielemans currently plays for AS Monaco but spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester and is considered an ideal replacement should Pogba decide to move on.
