Senator Shehu Sani (PRP-Kaduna Central) has stated that there is no problem with President Muhammadu Buhari attending the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Saudi Arabia.
Naija News had reported that Buhari had on Thursday arrived Makka, Saudi Arabia to attend the summit being hosted by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Some Nigerians took to social media on Friday to berate the president for attending the summit, stating that Nigeria is a secular country and not an Islamic nation.
Reacting in a post on Facebook, Shehu Sani stated that there was nothing wrong in attending, adding that any organisation that would boost Nigeria’s economy is welcomed.
He wrote: “There is nothing wrong with Nigeria’s membership of the OIC and PMB’s attendance.
“Any association that will bring economic benefits to our country is welcome as long as there’s no blackmail and our sovereignty will not be compromised.”
