Former Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi State and lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, James Faleke, says he will not contest the governorship election in the north-central state.

Naija News recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria’s electoral umpire, fixed November 2 for the governorship in Kogi state.

“The Commission at its meeting held today approved the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the Governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States which will hold in both States on Saturday 2nd November 2019,” INEC had said in a statement issued April 9 by Festus Okoye, the chairman of INEC’s information and voters education committee.

Speaking on the forthcoming election and the possibility of contesting the number one political position in the state, Faleke said his immediate preoccupation now is to “join hands with all members of the 9th Assembly to elect Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the House of Reps” and not to contest the Kogi election.

His words: “In the past few days, I have received phone calls from various people from Kogi State particularly from our brothers and sisters from the Eastern Senatorial District of the state on a purported meeting with my Leaders towards coming to Kogi State to contest for the governorship seat slated for November 2019. I wish to say clearly that I was not in such a meeting”.

“I have just been reelected by the loving people of Ikeja Federal Constituency to represent the people for a record third term. My immediate preoccupation now is to join hands with all members of the 9th Assembly to elect Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the House of Reps come June 2019 by God’s grace.

“I understand what the people of Kogi are going through now and let us continue to pray for God’s intervention and to touch the heart of the leaders in the state,” he added.
