Buhari States Stance On Bauchi, Edo Assembly Crisis

Nigeria’s security chiefs have promised to ensure the forthcoming election is not disrupted in any way.

This they said after a meeting, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Villa that lasted for over an hour.

Members of the Council include; the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno; Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan- Ali; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai and Chief of Naval Staff; Rear Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas.

Others are Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Abubakar Sadique; Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Abubakar; acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu and the Director General of Department for State Service (DSS), Yusuf Magaji Bichi.

Briefing State House Correspondents at the end of the meeting, the acting IGP said they had resolved to further provide adequate security within the country, following polls postponement.

Today, members of the security community and intelligence community came and briefed Mr. President on the security situation in the country. We deliberated on the consequences and came up with the resolve to further provide adequate security within the country so that the electorate will come out and cast their votes without any fear of molestation.

“Every Nigerian is encouraged to come out on the election day and cast his or her vote without any fear of molestation. The security personnel are ready and prepared to protect everybody. Anybody that feels that he can come out and disrupt the process should have a rethink because that situation will not be allowed. If you plan and allow yourself to be used as touts, whatever happens to you, you will take it,” he said.
