Presidency Reacts To Election Postponement

The presidency has reacted to the news that the 2019 general elections earlier scheduled to commence this Saturday has been postponed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Naija News recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria’s electoral umpire, had in the early hours of Saturday, shifted the 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections till February 23.

The Commission also postponed the governorship and state assembly elections, it will now hold on March 9.

Giving a reason for the decision, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said the decision was taken after a careful review of the plan for the exercise.

Reacting, Mr. Laoulu Akande, Senior Special Assistant-Media&Publicity to Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, said both his boss and President Muhammadu Buhari were already in Lagos and Katsina states respectively ahead of the expected elections.

He described the development as disappointing but expressed optimism that Nigeria will prevail.
