1. Buhari Govt replies US, UK, EU over CJN Onnoghen

The Nigerian Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari has warned the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union not to meddle in the internal affairs of the nation.

Naija News had reported earlier that President Buhari suspended Onnoghen on Friday and immediately appointed Tanko Mohammed as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria.

2. IGP Adamu bans issuance of new arms licences

The Acting Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Mohammed Adamu, has placed an immediate embargo on the issuance of new licences for designated arms throughout the country.

The development was made known in a statement issued by ACP Frank Mba, the spokesman of the force on Sunday in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

3. Boko Haram attacks Nigerian military bases again

Boko Haram’s jihadists attacked two military bases in Borno State on Saturday night, injuring six soldiers, two military sources revealed on Sunday.

These attacks are the latest against military targets in the region, while security has become a major issue in the electoral campaign ahead of the next general election.

4. What Femi Falana said about Onnoghen’s suspension

Human rights attorney, Femi Falana, says it is “unfortunate that the Bar and the Bench have played into the hands of the sponsors of incipient fascism” in Nigeria in reaction to the suspension of Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Naija News had reported earlier that President Muhammadu Buhari suspended Onnoghen on Friday and immediately appointed Tanko Mohammed as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria.

5. INEC releases names of 144 observers for 2019 elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday, announced that 144 observers will monitor the 2019 general elections.

Naija News reports that the Commission threatened to cancel and withdraw the accreditation of any organisation if its members or agents breach the code of conduct.

6. Femi Falana calls on President Buhari to lift suspension on Onoghen

Human Rights attorney, Femi Falana (SAN), has called on Justice Walter Onnoghen to quit the bench, following the allegations levelled against him at the code of conduct tribunal.

Speaking on the matter on Sunday, Falana called on the President Buhari-led Federal Government to lift the suspension on Onnoghen.

7. Nnamdi Kanu speaks on ‘Biafran Jews’ on holocaust memorial day

The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on Sunday, compared the Holocaust to the killing of millions of “Biafran Jews” during the Nigerian Civil War.

Naija News reports that January 27 was the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, commemorating the tragedy of the Holocaust that occurred during the Second World War.

8. IGP Mohammed Adamu retires all DIGs

Acting Inspector-General of Police Muhammed Adamu has retired all the Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs).

The retired DIGs, who were Adamu’s senior, served with former IG, Ibrahim Idris.

9. INEC excludes Zakari from collation of presidential results

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has excluded Amina Zakari and other national commissioners from collation of presidential poll results.

“No national commissioner will be appointed into the secretariat committee. So, Hajiya Amina Zakari or any national commissioner does not have anything to do with the collation of results.”

10. Gana drags Duke to court over SDP presidential ticket

Prof. Jerry Gana has dragged Donald Duke to the supreme court over the SDP presidential ticket for the 2019 elections.

At a press conference on Friday, the Prof. Jerry Gana Presidential Campaign Team spokesperson in Abuja described the judgment of the appeal court as unacceptable and a miscarriage of justice.
