19 Suspects Arraigned Over The Murder Of Retired General Alkali

The Plateau state police command has arraigned 19 suspects at a Jos high court over the disappearance and murder of Idris Alkali, a retired major general.

The suspects were arraigned before justice Daniel Longji.

They are accused of killing the retired army officer, who was declared missing on September 3 while travelling from Abuja to Bauchi.

On September 29, his car and other personal effects were found at a pond in Dura-Du community of Jos south local government area of Plateau.

His body was eventually found in an abandoned well in Shen village on October 30 and was buried by the military on November 3 in Abuja, Naija News reports.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty when Longji read the two-count charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

Emmanuel Achoba, the prosecuting counsel, applied for a date for hearing to enable him present witnesses before the court and urged it to remand the accused persons in prison custody.

Gyang Zi the defense counsel, did not object to the prayer of the prosecuting counsel but told the court that he was denied access to his clients by the police.

Longji adjourned the case to December 10 for hearing.

“The accused persons are hereby remanded in prison custody and the case adjourned to December 10 for hearing,” he said.
