Supporters Speak On How They Want EFCC To Treat Fayose
Treat Fayose Like You Treated Babachir Lawal, Fayose Supporters Tell EFCC
Some protesters and supporters of ex-Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State have asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to accord him the same respect given to the immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.
Naija News recalls that Babachir Lawal is a close ally of President Muhammadu Buhari who was probed by EFCC after his relief from his office as the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF)
Lawal was accused of corrupt practices that involved spending N570m out of the N2.5 billion awarded for the clearing of invasive plant species in Yobe state, through the Presidential Initiative on Northeast (PINE).
The protesters who made their demand in front of the Tunde Idiagbon House, Abuja, where Fayose had gone to honour the EFCC invitation were led by Deji Adeyanju, the Convener of Concerned Nigerians,
According to Adeyanju, “Before they accuse us of supporting corruption, let us state clearly that we are here to demand that the EFCC respect the rights of Fayose. He must be treated like Babachir Lawal who was only questioned and allowed to go.
“Babachir, despite allegations of stealing money meant for the victims of Boko Haram, was released on self recognisance.”
The protesters threatened to return on Wednesday if Fayose is detained for more than 24 hours.
