England Manager Southgate Signs New Contract

England’s unexpected big campaign at the 2018 World Cup was awarded a new contract to coach Gareth Southgate. The extension of the link from 2020 to 2022 was announced on Thursday. Thus, the coach will continue leading the England team until the World Cup in four years. Southgate has been awarded the renewal after winning the best English campaign at a World Cup since 1990. In Russia, the team advanced to the semi-finals and finished fourth overall. The campaign was surprising because the team had been playing under suspicion and the coach had no more international experience.

“I am very happy to have the opportunity to lead the national team for the next two major tournaments on the calendar,” celebrated the 48-year-old coach, already thinking about UEFA EURO 2020 and Qatar Cup. The renewal includes an undisclosed salary increase. But according to British media, he will receive 3 million pounds (£ 15 million) a year.

“It’s still an incredible privilege and a real honor to be able to experience such an experience in the World Cup, when the whole nation united behind the national team, and it’s great to see how far this young squad from the national team can go in the next few years, “said the coach.

He had taken over England in November 2016. If he completes his contract to the end, he will become the second-longest coach in team history, behind only Bobby Robson, who led the team between 1982 and 1990.
