The vehicle of the missing military General has been discovered by the Nigerian Army, inside a pond in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Major General Idris Alkali, the immediate past Chief of Administration, Army Headquarters, Abuja, was declared missing on September 3 on his way to Bauchi after leaving Abuja in the morning.

The Military had suspected based on intelligence gathering that his remains and cars could have been dropped in the pond.

As the military made attempt to search the pond, women numbering about 500 and clad in black, were reported to have protested against the evacuation of the water, with their leader, Mary Yakubu, claiming that the pond has “deep cultural significance’’ to their existence.

Divers had been called to check the pond, after the protest but to no desired result, military personnel from 3 Div, NA, Rukuba and Operation Safe Haven, commenced the evacuation of water from the pond on September 20.

Report has it that the vehicle was discovered in the pond at Dura Du, but it is unclear if it was empty.

Major General Idris Alkali (Retd) has been missing for weeks and the military authorities have since launched a search for him.
