NLC Counters Governors, Writes Buhari On Ways To Rescue Economy

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said it will proceed on a nationwide warning strike  from Thursday September 27 over the failure of the Nigerian Government to implement new minimum wage.

Recall that the NLC had given the Federal government a 14-day ultimatum which will elapse tomorrow September 26.

Naija News understands that the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC; Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, and United Labour Congress of Nigeria, ULC, agreed to embark on the strike after an emergency meeting in Lagos.

In a communique issued after its meeting on Monday, September 24, Joe Ajaero, the President of the United Labour Congress (ULC), said labour had begun preparations for the strike.

The ULC President said: “We shall no longer be obliged by this time to give any further notice to the government before embarking on the action.

“By this communiqué, we order all our affiliates and state councils nationwide to move to the final level of alert in their preparation for the proposed nationwide strike,” he added.

Ajaero maintained that a new national minimum wage was desirable and possible; noting that lack of patriotism, greed and corruption was the bane of a reasonable wage.
