Ebonyi South Youths Angered By Defection of the leader At The Senate, Ask Saraki To Declare His Seat Vacant.

Youths in Ebonyi South Senatorial zone under the platform of Ohanivo Youth forum, have called on the leadership of the Nigeria Senate to declare vacant, the seat of Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Sonni Ogbuorji.

They alleged that Ogbujori defected from his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), without consulting them and the entire Ebonyi South senatorial zone where he represents.

In a communiqué issued after its general Assembly in Abakaliki and signed by National President, Comrade Raymond Okoro and 23 other executives, the state capital, Today, the youths said the seat of Ogbuorji should be immediately declared vacant by the senate because, according to them, the lawmaker did not follow the constitutionally stipulated procedures.

It noted that if the senate leadership fails to declare the seat of Ogbuorji vacant, they will have no option other than to seek judicial interpretation of constitutional provisions for defection and clarification of the mandates being held by National Assembly members.

“We call on the National Assembly Leadership to declare the seat of Ebonyi south Senatorial zone in the senate vacant. Our Senator flagrantly displayed his non-challant attitude, disregard and disrespect for the constituency that gave him the majority of votes that accorded him the privilege of having the mandate on the platform of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and when he decamped to APC, he never consulted his constituents and did not follow the required condition as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria before defecting to the APC.

The Communique also read in part,

“The constitution stipulates that you can only defect from one party to another, only when your party is in crisis or there is factions in your party, which makes it impossible for you to function effectively in your party and to the best of our knowledge, there is no faction in PDP.

“If the senate leadership fails to declare the seat of Senator Ogbuoji vacant, we will have no option than to seek judicial interpretation of constitutional provision for defection and clarification of the mandates being held by National Assembly members.

“We at Ohanivo Youth forum have assembled a team of legal luminaries from the constituency to package all the necessary arsenals for the legal onslaught. They have done a good job, next will be legal action”, the youths said.

They expressed displeasure that they had written several letters to the Senator, calling on him to convene an interactive.

Meeting of Ebonyi south zone to brief the people on the developments at the National level, his performance so far as regards constituency projects in the zone for the past three years of his seven years at the senate and that he has willfully neglected their calls and stubbornly refused to convene the constituency briefing.

The youths however passed vote of confidence on Governor David Umahi for his developmental strides and vowed to ensure his reelection come 2019.

Meanwhile Naija News recalls that Senate president Bukola Saraki has said he will not declare any senator’s seat vacant.
