1. President Buhari meets APC senators in Aso Rock

President Muhammadu Buhari, met the senate caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting is the first between the two groups after the lawmakers’ defection which hit the party recently.

2. Governor Ortom dumps APC for PDP

Samuel Ortom, Benue State Governor, has announced his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party.

The announcement was made by the Governor during a meeting with elected local government chairmen and councillors on Wednesday at the Government House Makurdi.

3. Musiliu Smith sworn in as new chairman of Police Service Commission

President Muhammadu Buhari has on Wednesday, sworn-in the former Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Musiliu Smith, as the new chairman of the Police Service Commission.

Mr. Smith will take over from Mr. Mike Okiro, who is also a former Inspector General.

4. Court grants N10m bail to Kwara official implicated in Offa bank robbery

A Kwara State High Court in Ilorin has granted an interim bail to Yusuf Abdulwahab, the Chief of Staff to the Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, in the sum of N10 million.

Mr Abdulwahab has been held in police custody in Abuja since June 2, 2018 after he responded to police invitation over his alleged link with suspects who carried out robbery attacks on commercial banks in Offa on April 5, 2018.

5. Private refinery to take off by 2021 in Katsina state

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu has announced that the approved private sector Refinery in Mashi, Katsina State will be completed in 2021.

According to Kachikwu, on completion and commencement of operation, the refinery would have the capacity to produce 150, 000 barrels per day.

6. Lagos PDP chairman, Salvador, others remanded in prison for murder

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Moshood Salvador, and ten others have been ordered by the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba, to be remanded in the prison over alleged murder of the party chairman in the Apapa Local Government Area of the state, Adeniyi Aborishade.

Mr Oyetade Komolafe, the chief magistrate, gave the order, shortly after they were arraigned by the police on two charges of conspiracy and unlawful killing.

7. Kolapo Olusola accuses INEC of frustrating his plans for election tribunal

Independent National Electoral Commission, has been accused by Prof Kolapo Olusola, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the governorship election in Ekiti State, of frustrating his efforts to file a petition before the election petitions tribunal.

The result that got Dr Kayode Fayemi, of the All Progressives Congress, declared as the winner in the July 14 election is been challenged by Olusola.

8. Why House of Rep is investigating NIMASA fraud – Dogara

Allegations of fictitious contract awards and mismanagement of billions of naira by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) must be investigated in order to ensure that the masses are not cheated out of the commonwealth of the nation, Speaker Yakubu Dogara, has said.

He said this while speaking at the opening ceremony of the investigative hearing organised by the House Committee on Maritime Safety, Education and Administration on alleged corrupt practices in Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) at the National Assembly.

9. Benue youths prevent Governor Ortom from attending APC meeting

The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, was on Wednesday blocked by some youths in the state preventing him from travelling to attend the APC reconciliation meeting in Abuja.

Ortom was scheduled to meet with Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, and some other party officials.

10. Five confirmed dead in Lagos boat mishap

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed five persons died, as boat capsized at Ebute Terminal, in Lagos.

The General Manager of LASEMA, Mr Adesina Tiamiyu said that the agency received a distress call at about 5.57pm on Wednesday.
