Fulani Herdsmen Reportedly Kills 100 In Benue

The death has been reported on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, of Sheu Magu, an Area Commander of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), following an attack by suspected herdsmen in a village near Ogboro-Agbone Road, in Saki area of Oyo State.

Magu reportedly led a team of officers to arrest suspected herdsmen robbing travellers on the highway before they were attacked by the culprits.

A source who spoke with Guardian said: “Saki is boiling now. Members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), police and other bravemen are in the bush as I am talking to you now, hunting for the suspected herdsmen.

“The whole thing started when the police arrested one of the herdsmen for robbery. Precisely, a village along Ogboro-Agbonle road in Saki East local government area of the state.”

“On getting to the village, the informant that led the team was first attacked and killed. The leader of the police team popularly called Sheu was also matcheted while others escaped.”

“One of those who escaped told us that they used cow to surround the police officers attacking them.”

Some of the policemen in the team, escaped with varying degrees of injuries sustained during the attack.

Four suspects have already been arrested in connection with the attacks while further investigations are on-going according to the Police Public Relations officer (PPRO) for the state command, Adekunle Ajisebutu.

Suspected herdsmen attacks in various cities in the country since the launch of the year 2018, has left many dead and several injured, the most publicized been the new year killings that happened in Benue state.

The Nigerian Army has however, announced the launch of Operation Cat Race which is targeted at curbing such killings and activities in Benue state and other affected areas.
