Boko Haram: Army Recovers Battle Tank, Other Items From Insurgents
The Nigerian Army has recovered battle tanks alongside other weapons from the Boko Haram sect.
The weapons were recovered by the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole deployed to eradicated the insurgents from North East Nigeria.
Nigerian Army spokesman, Major General Sani Usman, revealed the feat in a statement he signed on Wednesday.
The troops recovered the weapons on Tuesday during the ongoing clearance operations tagged Operation DEEP PUNCH II, in which troops had engaged in a gun battle with the insurgents.
Usman said: “During the encounter, they (troops) were able to recover an Eagle Main Battle Tank (EMBT), one VBL, one AK-47 rifle, a police teargas rifle, religious books, many gas cylinders and bags of fertiliser, ostensibly for improvised explosives devices making.”
The soldiers destroyed several items belonging to the sect comprising seven gun trucks, four trucks, five Toyota Hilux vehicles, and one Prado jeep.
Other items include one Golf car, four Mitsubishi pickup vans, one Hiace bus, several motorcycles, as well as makeshift shelters and household items among others.
