The Lagos Police have shot dead 32 armed robbers and arrested 299 others, while losing six of its officers in the past 10 months.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi made the disclosure on Wednesday during the 11th Town Hall meeting on Security organized  at the State House, Ikeja, Lagos State.

The CP revealed that from January to October 2017, 299 armed robbers were arrested while 32 others were shot dead during encounters with the police.

He also said 231 vehicles were recovered within the 10-month period,  while 21 armed robbery attempts were thwarted.

He lamented that “Regrettably, six police officers were shot dead in the line of duty,” he said sadly.

He added that as part of efforts to ensure a reduced crime rate is sustained in Lagos,  the police has increased its presence in all crime prone areas and other locations.

Imohimi said the challenges being faced by the police included dearth of patrol vehicles, while many vehicles attached to the divisions had become rickety and unserviceable due to old age and over usage.

The commissioner noted that the police would require additional 200 patrol vehicles, equipped with communication gadgets, five lorries troop carriers and five heavy duty towing vehicles, as well as arms and ammunition, riot gunners, smoke pistols, hand grenades, teargas canisters, thunder blasts, bullet proof vest, among others.
