Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu was lucky to escape death on Tuesday as unidentified gunmen stormed his house in Abuja.

One of the police guards attached to Magu’s house, a police sergeant, lost his life in the gun battle with the gun men.

He was shot and died instantly.

The Karshi, Abuja farm house of the EFCC boss, was reportedly attacked by the gunmen at about 10 pm and exchanged gun fire with policemen on guard duty.

This is the second time that the same the house will be attacked by unknown elements.

Reports have it that the incessant attacks and threats on Magu’s life in the last 10 months is directly related to his refusal to bow to pressure from some high-profile suspects and Politically Exposed Persons who are currently under investigation by the EFCC.

Recall that following threats to his life and family, security was beefed up for Magu and his immediate family leading to the deployment of policemen to the uncompleted bungalow in Karshi.

Magu’s mother had also been the victim of similar threats in the family house located in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

This latest attack came barely 48 hours after Magu, speaking on Monday during a walk to mark the anti-corruption day, stated that the anti-corruption war will be a do-or-die affair.

Magu said: “For those of us on this side; in the anti-corruption agencies of government, in the media, and civil society, the dagger is drawn and I believe I am speaking the mind of everyone on this side that we intend to neither retreat nor surrender in our noble intention to cure our country of the evils of corruption.

“For us as a country, the fight against corruption is a ‘do or die’ affair; we have to win the battle or die trying.
