500 youths renounce cultism, surrender to Lagos police
500 youths surrender to police as they decide to stop being cultists.
500 youths in Lagos have on Monday willingly relinquished their membership of cult groups in the area.
The youths wo belonged to confraternities such as Aiye, KK , Buccaneer, Eiye, among others made the renouncement in Ijede Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu.
The Lagos State Police recovered weapons which it displayed at the Ijede LCDA hall.
The weapons included AK-47 rifles, pump action rifles, single-barrell guns, locally-made guns, cartridges, axes, among others weapons.
Commending the LCDA Chairman, Mr. Salisu Jimoh, for pioneering the move, the Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, said the occurrence has further shown the benefit of his Police/public partnership policy.

Speaking separately, the former cultist heads expressed what lures individuals to join cults and reasons they renounced their memberships.
Former cultist, Olarewaju Adesoye, who said he was former head of Eiye confraternity, said: “I was the number one man of Eiye. My membership started from power tussle over boundary issue.
“But the crisis that followed was not what we bargained for. My appreciation goes to the local government chairman, who pioneered this move.
“We made up our minds to renounce our membership for long, but we didn’t know the logical way to follow so as not to be arrested”.
Similarly, one Temitayo, said most of them joined various cult groups because of lack of jobs.
He said members of the various cult groups comprised graduates and artisans.
AAlso, the ex-leader of KK confraternity, Abdulrazeez Densi, said his departure from cultism heralds a new beginning in his life as he wants peace in his community.
“I decided to renounce my membership because of the safety of my life and that of members of my community. I want peace to reign in my community”, he said.
