Cleric calls on Nigerian Govt to utilise recovered loots for basic amenities

A Catholic Bishop of Minna Diocese, Minna, Niger State, Bishop Martins Uzuokwu, has advised the federal government to utilise the recovered loots in providing basic amenities that would improve the standard of living of Nigerians.

Uzuokwu stated that it is unnecessary to hoard the recovered funds as Nigerians crave for many basic infrastructural facilities which are yet in place, adding the President Buhari should order the utilisation of the loots.

“Nigerians were eager to see the political change they voted for through the provision of basic infrastructure like roads, electricity, education and effective health care services.

“Why keep the money? It is two years; we want to see what we voted for in meeting the desired political change.

“Mr President should direct the relevant agencies to channel recovered loots to the construction of capital projects, to improve on the well-being of the governed, ” he said.

He added that the recovered loots would help in providing employment for the teeming unemployed youths in the country and improve the condition of road network which has debilitating effect on the nation’s political and socio-economic growth.

“Fighting corruption is one of the best things that has happened to our country but let us utilise what was recovered from looters in providing social amenities that will enhance our living conditions,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to continue to support the whistleblower policy by exposing corrupt public officers.

The Bishop also called on President Buhari to “take decisive security action against kidnappers, cattle rustlers and insurgency, to enable Nigerians to pursue their legitimate businesses.”
