Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and former president Olusegun Obasanjo today attended a conference where they discussed lessons of the Nigeria-Biafra war.

The Biafran war of over three years between 1967 to 1970 led to the death of about 1.5 million women and children who died of starvation.

The event tagged, ‘Biafra: 50 Years After’, was organised‎ by the Shehu Musa Yar Adua Foundation to mark the 50th anniversary of the end of the war.

Some of the personalities who attended are Ahmed Joda, John Nnia Nwodo, Pat Utomi, Osita Chidoka, and Hakeem Baba Ahmed.

Obasanjo is presently speaking on the reconciliation, reconstruction and rehabilitation‎ initiatives introduced by the government of Yakubu Gowon after the war.

Biafra: Only Fools Learn From Experience, The Wise From History – Osinbajo

Osinbajo why speaking during the confrence urged Nigerians to learn from the history of Nigeria’s civil war rather than beating the drums of a second civil war, saying while the wise learn from history, experience remains the best teacher for a fool.

In a keynote address, “Greater Together than Apart” delivered on Thursday at an event to examine Nigeria’s development 50 years after the Nigerian-Biafran civil war, Osinbajo said while it is kinder to learn from history, experience is a harsh teacher.

While he said there was no harm in discussing the nation’s existence, he urged Nigerians to use the country’s diversity to make her great “instead of trying to flee into the lazy comfort of homogeneity”.
