Geography and Borders

Abia is located in the South-East geopolitical zone. It is bordered by Enugu and Ebonyi States to the north, Imo State to the west, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States to the east, and Rivers State to the south.

Governance: From 1991 to Date

Created from the old Imo State, Abia has been led by various military and civilian leaders who have shaped its development:

  • Frank Ajobena (1991–1992): First Military Administrator.
  • Ogbonnaya Onu (1992–1993): First Civilian Governor.
  • Orji Uzor Kalu (1999–2007): Focused on infrastructure and the “Enyimba” spirit.
