George Weah’s son, Timothy Weah, has become the first son of a former Ballon d’Or winner to score at the FIFA World Cup.

Naija News recalls that in the Group B match between Wales and the United States, the 22-year-old scored the game’s first goal.

Weah chose to represent America, the country of his birth, even though his father is serving as the president of Liberia and has played for the national team.

After 36 minutes, the Lille player gave the USA the lead, but Wales was able to salvage a point thanks to a late Gareth Bale penalty.

Meanwhile, his father played for some of the top teams in Europe, including AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, throughout his illustrious career.

He played 157 games for AC Milan, scoring 58 goals.

Weah has 16 goals in 60 games with the Liberian national team.

He became the first and only African player to win the Ballon d’Or in 1995.

Nevertheless, missing out on the World Cup is still his greatest regret.

According to a comment from Weah in a former interview with VarskySports, he once said “Being from Liberia and becoming a professional soccer player was already like a dream. Then I won titles, even a Ballon d’Or, and I came back to be president! I missed playing in a World Cup. Maybe my son will fulfill his dream and fulfill it for me.”
