The apex Igbo socio-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo is set to decide on the candidate the group will support during the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria.

Naija News gathered that the decision will be confirmed during the 2022 Igbo Day celebration on September 29 in Aba, Abia State.

According to a statement by the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, sons, daughters and leaders from the seven Igbo-speaking states are expected at the event.

“All Igbo clergymen will lead the prayer sessions on 29th September 2022, Igbo Governors and leaders from the seven Igbo-speaking states will be the special guests.

“Ndigbo in their numbers are expected to attend this very important event in their numbers,” Isiguzoro said in a statement through the head of Media in the Office of the Secretary-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Nkpa Kanu-Uduma.

A source quoted by Daily Post on the forthcoming event added that a critical announcement will be made at the event on the candidate to support for the 2023 polls.

“Aba is a historical city in anything that has to do with Ndigbo and that is why it has been chosen to host the 2022 Igbo Day celebration.

“It will be a gathering of Ndigbo from the 7 speaking Igbo States, during which a critical announcement would be made,” the source hinted.

The Ohanaeze is understood to have narrowed down its choice and expected to select among Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu.
