Dangote: Buhari Commissions Largest Fertiliser Plant In Africa

President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned the largest fertiliser Plant In Africa and the second-largest in the world.

Naija News reports that the President inaugurated the Dangote Fertiliser Plant at the Lekki area of Lagos State on Tuesday.

Speaking at the commissioning of the plant, Buhari appreciated the Dangote Fertiliser team for their hardwork and making sure that the inauguration of the facility was a success.

He stated that the fertiliser plant will support his government’s drive to ensure food sufficiency in the country.

Buhari revealed that his government is focused on providing enabling environment for the private sector to thrive and contribute its quota to the country’s development.

He said: “This is a demonstration of enhancing the socio-development of the country.

“We are partnering with the private sector through tax credit scheme on road constructions in the country and rehabilitating railway lines for ease movement of goods.”

In his remarks, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has revealed that the plant, which cost $2.5 billion, is estimated to produce three million metric tonnes of urea per annum.

The businessman pointed out that the plant is the largest in Africa and the second-largest urea plant in the world.

Dangote stated that the fertiliser plant will reduce unemployment in Nigeria and make fertiliser available in large quantities for farmers.

He said the capacity of the plant will be expanded to produce multi grades of fertiliser to meet soil, crop, and climate-specific requirement for the African continent.

“It is an ambitious project that will reduce unemployment in Nigeria.

“Low fertiliser usages have been the reason for low yield of agriculture products in the sector.

“Our goal is to make fertiliser available in quantity for our farmers. We are rolling out initiatives that will transform the agric sector for all.

“This will boost productivity and enhance output across the nation,” he said.
