A Federal High Court, Abuja has granted bail to 12 aides of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, after spending 32 days in the detention of the Department of State Services.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu admitted their bail in a bail application, filed on their behalf by lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi.

The judge rejected the plea by DSS lawyer, Idowu Awo, that some of the detainees will flee the country as their leader, Sunday Igboho, did if granted bail.

The presiding judge further stated that the aides to the Yoruba Nation agitator are entitled to bail by the provisions of the Nigerian law having been held in custody beyond the period stipulated by law.

Justice Egwuata further stated that the law condemns a situation where citizens’ freedom is curtailed under unlawful circumstances.

The suspects were granted bail on various conditions and will remain in the DSS detention until their bail conditions are perfected.
