The 36 state governors in Nigeria, operating under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors Forum will Wednesday evening, hold an emergency meeting over the new minimum wage.

The meeting, where the issue of the minimum wage is expected to be discussed will hold in Abuja, the nation’s capital, Naija News understands.

The meeting, which is expected to be presided over by the Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, who is the chairman of the forum, is expected to take a definite stand on the amount the governors will be able to pay as minimum wage and prevent a nationwide strike been threatened by the organised labour.

Naija News earlier reported that organized labour have given a December deadline for the government to implement a new N30,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers, warning that no lower figure would be accepted from the government.

Labour added that failure of government to meet its demands will lead to the resumption of its suspended nationwide strike action.

President Muhammadu Buhari had stated that no figure was yet to be adopted as new minimum wage but that he was studying the report presented to him by the minimum wage committee before sending same to the National Assembly for legislative approval.
