‘Peter Obi, Police Driver Broke Simple Parking Rule’ – Presidency Reacts To Keyamo’s Seven-Day Ultimatum

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has insisted that the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and his police driver broke a simple parking rule at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Naija News earlier reported that the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, in a statement on Friday, said it has been discovered that recent claims by Obi that the tyres of his car were unjustly clamped at the Airport as part of targeted prosecution against him by the federal government are totally false.

The Minister said he launched an inquiry into the matter following Obi’s public outcry that the actions of the Bola Tinubu administration have made his daily activities difficult and affected his livelihood ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, Keyamo, in his statement, said it was discovered that the former Governor of Anambra State was wrongly parked at the Airport during the incident that occurred on July 4, 2026.

The Minister stated that Obi had alighted from the car before it was clamped by Airport security officers, after giving enough time for correction; hence, there was no way they could have known it was his car and targeted him for prosecution.

He added that when the matter was eventually brought to Obi’s attention by the Policeman who drove the car, the former Labour Party presidential candidate decided to bully his way through and had the car released without paying a fine, even though his action constituted a clear security breach.

Reacting to the development, Onanuga, in a post via his 𝕏 handle, said the evidence Keyamo released completely debunked Peter Obi’s falsehood that he was unduly targeted and persecuted.

He said, “Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo explains how Peter Obi’s car violated parking rules at the Airport, how it was clamped and how Peter Obi peddled his influence to get the car released without paying the mandatory fine. Keyamo has now decided that Peter Obi must pay the N25,000 fine for wrongful, illegal and dangerous parking.

“The Minister’s account of what happened on July 4 at Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, completely debunked Obi’s falsehood that he was unduly targeted and persecuted. The truth is that he and his police driver broke a simple parking rule at the Airport.”
