Good morning Nigeria. Welcome to the Naija News roundup of top newspaper headlines in Nigeria for today, Saturday, 4th July, 2026.
1. INEC Extends Voter Registration
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration by two weeks.
The exercise, which was earlier scheduled to end on July 10, will now close on Friday, July 24, 2026.
Naija News reports that the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, disclosed this on Friday night in Abuja.
Haruna said the decision followed a review of the exercise and feedback received from INEC state offices, political parties, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.
According to him, the CVR, which began on August 18, 2025, was extended to give eligible Nigerians who had yet to register another opportunity to do so ahead of future electoral activities.
The commission said the extension reflected its commitment to ensuring that every eligible Nigerian had a fair and reasonable chance to be captured in the Register of Voters.
INEC also announced the introduction of a self-service online registration option for eligible first-time voters.
The commission said the service would become available from Wednesday, July 8, 2026, through its dedicated CVR portal, where a step-by-step guide would be provided.
According to INEC, the self-service option will allow eligible citizens to initiate and complete their voter registration, including biometric capture, using personal devices without physically visiting an INEC office.
The commission said the system includes identity verification, biometric validation and backend integrity checks to preserve the credibility and accuracy of the National Register of Voters.
INEC urged eligible Nigerians who had yet to register to take advantage of the extended window and explore the new registration technology.
2. PFIPC Scandal: Dalung Names Top Government Officials To Be Held Responsible
Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has listed government officials who should be held responsible for the “Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC)” scandal.
He listed President Bola Tinubu, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, as culpable.
Naija News reports that the Presidency on Wednesday dismissed renewed claims by Adeyemi Adeniyi Matthew that he was appointed to head a presidential agency, insisting he is an impostor who allegedly forged official documents to present himself as Director-General of a non-existent PFIPC, also described as the Presidential Economic Advisory Council.
Sharing his thoughts on the matter during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, Dalung claimed the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, is the “prime suspect” in the controversy, insisting that anyone who overlooks his role is complicit in what he termed an embarrassing episode for Nigeria.
Dalung also insisted that the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) should also be probed.
He also argued that no credible investigation into the alleged activities of businessman Adeniyi at the Presidential Villa can succeed without first scrutinising the office of the President’s top aide.
According to Dalung, the Chief of Staff occupies a critical position within the Presidency, making it impossible for anyone to gain access to the Presidential Villa without the necessary authorisation.
3. PFIPC: ADC Asks Tinubu To Investigate Gbajabiamila, Lists 10 Institutions For Probe
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for an independent judicial inquiry into the controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), describing the matter as a serious test of institutional integrity and accountability.
In a statement issued to Naija News on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the scandal raised fundamental questions about governance, national security and the credibility of public institutions under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The ADC said the Presidency’s recent statement on the matter failed to answer critical questions about how an organisation it described as fictitious allegedly operated within government circles.
The party said the statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, focused mainly on defending the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, without explaining how the disputed council allegedly interacted with several government institutions.
The party argued that the controversy was no longer about one individual but about the integrity of the Nigerian state.
The ADC called for investigations into the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Budget Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the National Security Adviser, the DSS, the Nigeria Police Force, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, the Central Bank of Nigeria and relevant National Assembly committees.
4. Gbajabiamila: ‘There Are More Scammers Operating In Govt’ – Former Minister, Dalung
Former Minister of Sports and Youths Development, Solomon Dalung, has asserted that there are more scammers operating in the current administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Naija News reports that Dalung made this known on Friday in an interview on Trust TV, while reacting to the saga between ‘the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC)’, Adeniyi Adeyemi, and Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Recall that Adeyemi had alleged that Gbajabiamila received ₦400 million through a proxy and demanded an additional ₦200 million to secure his appointment.
However, the Presidency debunked the allegation, saying Gbajabiamila cannot write letters or give appointments.
Speaking on the development, Dalung said that the statement from the presidency suggests the government has collapsed and that more scammers are operating within it.
5. ‘All Security Agencies Work For Tinubu Rather Than For Nigeria’ – Abubakar
Kaduna-based legal practitioner, Al-zubayr Abubakar, has alleged that all of Nigeria’s security agencies work for President Bola Tinubu rather than for the country.
Naija News reports that Abubakar, during an interview with JKD TV, a Kaduna-based television station, accused Tinubu of controlling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the security agencies, and the judiciary.
He alleged that court judges, who are supposed to stand for justice, have all been brought under Tinubu’s influence, stressing that no leader, even during the era of military dictatorship and repression, has ever governed in such a manner.
According to Abubakar, with Tinubu’s influence on INEC, it will be difficult for Nigerians to trust the electoral umpire to conduct a free and fair election.
6. ‘There Is Nothing Honourable About NYSC, It Should Be Suspended – Sam Amadi
The Director of the Abuja School of Social Thought and Politics, Sam Amadi, has suggested that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) should be suspended in some places.
Naija News reports that Amadi, featuring on Arise Television’s Morning Show, said the NYSC scheme has failed, stressing that it only worked in the past.
According to Amadi, the elite’s self-selection of state tendencies has undermined and defeated the scheme’s framework.
Amadi stressed that Nigeria’s problems are no longer about knowing how people in Kebbi behave, noting that they have had enough of those samplings and symbolisms.
He also said graduates should not be deployed to unsafe states.
7. ‘People In Power Have Historic Anger Against Me’ – Sowore
The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has accused those in power of having a historical anger against him.
Recall Sowore was recently released from the Kuje correctional facility after being bailed in the tune of ₦200 million in a defamation suit filed against him by the government for calling President Bola Tinubu a ‘criminal’.
Naija News reports that Sowore, during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘The Morning Brief’ on Friday, said he is being punished for standing up for his rights and those of every Nigerian.
According to him, the security agencies and leaders, as well as those in power, are the people fighting against him.

Naija News reports that Baba Ijesha made this known in a post via his Facebook page, alongside photos of himself and his wife, Abiodun Folashade Tokunbo, kneeling before the monarch.
The thespian said they received a royal welcome at the Ile-Ife palace and the Ooni conferred on him the title ‘Baba Awada Konge Oduwa’ (meaning father of comedy meets Oduduwa)
Baba Ijesha also expressed his excitement over the gift and appreciated the traditional ruler and his chiefs.
The palace visit comes months after Baba Ijesha’s release from prison in November 2025.
He had served a prison term following a 2022 conviction by a Lagos high court on charges of indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault. Though initially sentenced to 16 years, the sentence ran concurrently, resulting in approximately five years behind bars.
9. A Lot Of People Think The Kutis Are Into Drugs – Made
Afrobeats singer Made Kuti has cleared the air over the long-standing belief that members of the Kuti family are involved in drug use, saying the assumption is false.
Naija News reports that the musician spoke on the sidelines of the United States Mission’s 250th Independence Day celebration held in Lagos, where he said many people wrongly believe that he and other members of his family use narcotics.
The event took place on Wednesday at the residence of the United States Consul General in Ikoyi, Lagos.
According to him, he does not smoke, while his father has also stopped smoking.
He said the public often links the Kuti family with narcotics, but explained that this does not reflect the reality for most members of the family.
During the interview, Made also described himself as a hardworking, loyal and passionate person. He jokingly said his loyalty is easy to explain because he is a married man.
When asked which Nigerian musician he currently enjoys listening to the most, Made said he listens to his grandfather’s music.
