A Lot Of People Think The Kutis Are Into Drugs – Made

Afrobeats singer Made Kuti has cleared the air over the long-standing belief that members of the Kuti family are involved in drug use, saying the assumption is false.

Naija News reports that the musician spoke on the sidelines of the United States Mission’s 250th Independence Day celebration held in Lagos, where he said many people wrongly believe that he and other members of his family use narcotics.

The event took place on Wednesday at the residence of the United States Consul General in Ikoyi, Lagos.

According to him, he does not smoke, while his father has also stopped smoking.

He said the public often links the Kuti family with narcotics, but explained that this does not reflect the reality for most members of the family.

During the interview, Made also described himself as a hardworking, loyal and passionate person. He jokingly said his loyalty is easy to explain because he is a married man.

When asked which Nigerian musician he currently enjoys listening to the most, Made said he listens to his grandfather’s music.

The singer also called on Nigerians to pay more attention to climate change.

He said although the country is dealing with economic and cultural challenges, environmental issues should not be ignored because they also deserve urgent attention.

He stated: “A lot of people think I smoke, but I don’t, and even my dad has quit. So, there is a big misconception that the family are all into narcotics and drugs, but most of us are not.  I am hardworking, loyal and passionate. I’m a married man.

“I think honestly we are very aware of the cultural issues we are facing and the economic issues we are facing, but something very important I will say is climate change.”
