Boko Haram Terrorists Attack Yobe, Burn Vehicles, Destroy Goods
Suspected Boko Haram insurgents, on Friday (today), attacked Geidam town in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, destroying at least four vehicles and trucks, including one loaded with goods worth millions of naira.
Naija News learnt that the attackers infiltrated the town around 4:30 am while most residents were asleep.
Residents said the insurgents moved to the Geidam Local Government Secretariat, where they set ablaze a Toyota Hilux and a Sharon bus belonging to the local government.
A resident who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust said the attackers, after leaving the secretariat, also came across two trucks parked in the area.
“As they were leaving the secretariat, they came across two trucks. One of them was loaded with goods worth millions of naira belonging to traders who attended the Geidam weekly market,” the source said.
“The traders had loaded their goods and were waiting until morning to begin their journey home. The insurgents set the truck and all the goods on fire. Nothing was taken.”
The source added that another articulated vehicle parked within the market premises was also set ablaze, bringing the number of vehicles destroyed in the attack to four.
Another resident said the insurgents appeared to have changed their mode of operation.
According to the resident, the attackers no longer rode motorcycles directly into the town as they used to, but now abandon them outside and enter on foot to avoid attracting the attention of security operatives.
“In the past, they usually rode motorcycles into the town, but now they park them outside and move in on foot. They knew exactly where they were going. They headed straight to the secretariat, burnt two official vehicles and later set two trucks ablaze, including one carrying goods,” the resident said.
The resident added that no death or injury was recorded during the raid.
Following the attack, residents appealed to the Federal Government, the Yobe State Government and security agencies to strengthen security in the area.
“We are appealing to the Federal Government, the Yobe State Government and security agencies to strengthen security by providing personnel with the equipment and support needed to tackle the insurgents effectively,” the resident added.
Police Confirm Attack
The spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident but referred further enquiries to the military.
He explained that Geidam falls under military operational control.
