Borno School Abduction: ‘Number Of Missing Students Between 30 And 31’

Suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists on Monday attacked Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, in the Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, abducting many students.

Naija News learnt that the attack occurred around 8.30 am while candidates sitting for the ongoing NECO examination were preparing for the day’s paper.

Sources who spoke with Daily Trust said the terrorists stormed the classrooms and whisked away students and two teachers.

A teacher who reportedly refused to follow them was shot dead, while another person sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital.

A senior staff member of the school said the management had yet to determine the exact number of abducted students.

“As at this afternoon, when the school management tried to collate the figures, the number of missing students was between 30 and 31,” he said.

The Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Kenneth Daso, confirmed the incident, saying the attackers entered Lassa on motorcycles during the community’s market day.

“It was Lassa market day, so they took advantage, infiltrated the market on motorcycles and went to Government Day Secondary School, Lassa. They shot and killed one teacher and took away all the students who were in their classrooms,” Daso said.

Eight students and two teachers were later rescued by a joint team of hunters and security agents who pursued the attackers.

Daso said security operatives were combing nearby bushes to rescue the remaining victims.

Lassa is about 20 kilometres from Mussa community, where 42 pupils of Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School were abducted on May 15.
