How One Of My ‘Daughters’ Was Killed During Morning Evangelism – Adeboye
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared painful experiences of attacks on members of the church in Northern Nigeria, saying Christians should not respond with revenge despite the losses they have suffered.
Naija News reports that the clergyman spoke during a US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award gala, organized by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington.
Adeboye reacted to claims that he had remained silent over repeated attacks on Christians in parts of Northern Nigeria.
He said such criticism ignored the pain and sacrifices made by churches under his leadership over the years.
The cleric recalled the killing of a female RCCG pastor who was carrying out early morning evangelism in the North.
According to him, she was passing near a mosque while preaching that Jesus loves people when she was attacked and killed.
Adeboye said those responsible were never brought to justice. He also said the police did not properly investigate or act on the case.
The cleric revealed that after the killing, some younger Christians wanted the church to respond by taking revenge because they believed the authorities had failed in their responsibility to protect lives.
However, he said he rejected the idea because he was not prepared to allow such actions to lead to a religious conflict in the country.
Adeboye said; “One of my daughters, a pastor in the north was killed during early morning evangelism in the North. She was preaching that Jesus loves you when she was attacked. The incident was known, but there was no proper action taken. Some young Christians wanted retaliation, but I refused it. I will not allow a spiritual conflict to rise from this. We chose not to respond with revenge despite the pain.”
