Troops Foil Attempted Attack On NIPSS In Plateau

Troops have foiled an attempted infiltration of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Military sources told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, that the incident occurred around 1:30 am on Monday.

According to the sources, troops working with other security agencies guarding the institute sighted suspected criminals moving around the facility.

“Security personnel responded swiftly, forcing the suspected intruders to flee into a nearby thick shrub before they could gain access to the institute,” Makama said.

He added that troops immediately searched the area where the suspects were last seen, but no arrest was made as they had escaped.

Makama said security had been reinforced around the institute, while surveillance and patrols had been intensified to prevent another breach.

“The sources said security has since been reinforced around the facility, while surveillance and area domination patrols have been intensified to prevent any further attempt to breach the premises,” he added.

The incident came about two weeks after gunmen attacked the institute, killing three security operatives. The Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, had said the attack occurred in the early hours of June 16.

Reports indicated that two soldiers and a police officer were killed, though the police did not disclose their identities.
