‘Some People Think I Am Rich Because I Belong To APC’ – Igbokwe
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has said his wealth did not come from his membership of the ruling party.
Igbokwe, in a post on his Facebook page, said he had engaged in several menial jobs and businesses before becoming successful.
He said, “Some people will see me today and think in their wildest imaginations that I am rich because I belong to APC Nigeria.
“My story will choke you to the marrow. I started feeding my mother when I was in primary school in the 70s. I fetched firewood for sale. I fetched water for sale.”
The APC chieftain said he worked as a bus conductor in Lagos and later ventured into different businesses.
“I planted yams for people. I was a bus conductor in Lagos. I started a restaurant business as a graduate. I sold motor parts, and I sold cars on Western Avenue in Lagos, and I buy and sell lands, I am an author of five books, etc. Today, I am a fulfilled man. One thing led to another,” he added.
In other news, the Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, has defended the recent statement by First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on empowering Nigerians to explore small-scale businesses such as akara, roasted corn, and kuli-kuli, which require little capital.
Naija News reports that the First Lady, in a video making the rounds online, explained the administration’s support for small businesses through grants rather than loans.
However, her comment angered many netizens, who argued that it was insulting and failed to reflect or address the economic challenges facing many Nigerians.
Speaking against the backdrop of this development during an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on the Mic On podcast, Dare revealed that his mother trained him by selling bananas and oranges in Jos, Plateau State.
