AAC Candidate Withdraws From Anambra Senate Race

Former African Action Congress (AAC) senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Chioma Ifemeludike, has pulled out of the 2027 senatorial election, citing her personal beliefs and recent political developments.

Naija News reports that Ifemeludike, who also serves as the AAC Deputy National Chairperson for the South-East, announced her withdrawal in a letter sent to the party’s Acting National Chairperson.

The letter was made available to journalists on Friday.

She had secured the party’s ticket through a consensus arrangement during the AAC primary election held in May.

In the letter, she informed the party’s National Working Committee that she no longer wished to contest for the Anambra Central Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general election.

She also asked the party to remove her name from every record, process and activity connected to the senatorial ticket.

According to her, the decision came after careful consideration and was guided by her principles, her commitment to justice, accountability and her desire to protect vulnerable people in society.

She wrote, “I hereby formally notify the National Working Committee and the leadership of the African Action Congress of my decision to withdraw my interest and aspiration to contest for the office of Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District under the platform of our great party in the 2027 General Elections.

“This decision has been taken after careful reflection and in accordance with my personal convictions, principles, and commitment to justice, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable members of society.”

She also said recent events strengthened her resolve to leave the race.

Ifemeludike referred to the role played by Doris Ogala Umezurike in matters surrounding the case involving Baby Testimony and the child’s physically challenged mother, saying the situation raised concerns for her.

She stated that, in her opinion, the handling of the matter contributed to the prolonged suffering of the child’s mother, exposed her to public embarrassment and created questions about whether justice was truly being served for the child.

She explained that these concerns influenced her decision to abandon her political ambition and instead focus on speaking up for justice, accountability and the protection of vulnerable members of society.

Ifemeludike again requested that the party completely remove her name from all records and considerations relating to the Anambra Central senatorial candidacy.
