Most Musicians Fall Today Because Of Their Women – Baba Fryo
Veteran Nigerian singer Baba Fryo has opened up on marriage and relationships, saying he still believes that having a partner who understands the entertainment industry can make life easier for musicians.
Speaking during an interview with TheCable Lifestyle, the singer, who confirmed that he is currently married, reflected on a statement he made years ago about wishing he had married someone in the showbiz industry.
Naija News reports that Baba Fryo said he still shares that view to some extent, noting that a partner involved in entertainment would better understand the nature of his work.
According to him, “if I say, ‘Okay, this is what I’m doing,’ she will understand.” He added that people who are not in the industry often struggle to fully grasp the demands and realities of the profession.
However, the musician said his thinking has evolved over time.
He explained that understanding and support are more important than simply sharing the same profession. In his words, “it’s just a matter of understanding, too.”
The singer said he has also realised that marrying a fellow entertainer does not automatically guarantee a peaceful relationship.
He noted that outside influences can still create problems between couples, adding that “if a musician fan can cause an issue between two musicians,” the same could happen in a marriage involving two celebrities.
The Denge Pose crooner said what matters most is having “someone who understands your kind of business, who is loyal to you, who respects you.”
He described respect as “the ultimate in marriage,” insisting that relationships often become difficult when partners fail to understand one another.
According to him, “when your partner doesn’t understand you, I don’t think things will work out.” He maintained that mutual understanding is necessary for both a successful marriage and a successful career.
The singer also spoke about the challenges many musicians face in balancing their careers and relationships.
He said some entertainers end up holding themselves back because they are trying to avoid conflicts at home. He stated that “most musicians fall today” because they constantly try to adjust themselves to keep their partners happy.
He further warned that “if a man keeps doing that, the man will go down,” stressing that long-term success is more likely when a partner supports rather than frustrates an artiste’s career.
He added that “when the woman understands your kind of business and supports your business, that’s when you will grow.”
