No One Will Be Disenfranchised – Oyebanji Assures Voters In Ekiti Election
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the ongoing governorship election in the state, saying the exercise has remained peaceful while voter turnout has been encouraging across many communities.
Naija News reports that the governor spoke on Saturday after casting his vote alongside his wife at Polling Unit 003 in Oyebanji’s Compound, RA 06, located in Ekiti West Local Government Area.
He said reports reaching him from different parts of the state showed that the election was progressing smoothly and that many residents responded positively to calls to participate in the voting process.
Although some polling units experienced technical problems during the accreditation process, Oyebanji urged residents not to panic.
Reports from some areas indicated that electronic voter verification devices encountered difficulties in capturing the details of certain voters, causing delays in the early hours of voting.
Reacting to the situation, the governor appealed to voters to remain calm and patient.
He assured the electorate that every eligible voter would be given the opportunity to cast a ballot and would not be denied participation because of technical challenges.
According to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had assured authorities that the issues affecting the machines would be addressed quickly so that voting could continue without major disruptions.
He said those who had already arrived at polling centres and were waiting in line would be allowed to vote once the problems were resolved.
Oyebanji also expressed delight over the turnout recorded so far, stating that many residents had answered the call to take part in the democratic process.
He noted that the willingness of voters to come out and exercise their civic responsibility was a positive development for the state.
He said: “The report is positive and voting is going on smoothly. The turnout is also very impressive. I am happy that people heeded my call for them to come out en masse to cast their votes.
“I want to appeal to our people to be patient, because everyone will vote. I have received assurances from INEC that all those who came out will be allowed to vote.”
