Ekiti Poll: Voters Troop To Oyebanji’s Polling Unit

Residents of Ikogosi in Ekiti West Local Government Area turned out early on Saturday at the polling unit of Governor Biodun Oyebanji as voting commenced in the Ekiti State governorship election.

Naija News reports that at Ward 6, Polling Unit 003, located in front of the Oyebanji family compound in Okelele, voters were seen checking their names on the register and preparing to cast their ballots.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission arrived at the polling unit and briefed voters on the voting procedure before accreditation and voting commenced at about 8:30 a.m.

The electoral officials assured voters that adequate materials had been deployed for a smooth and hitch-free exercise.

One of the voters, who identified herself simply as Aduke, said she had confirmed her name on the register and was prepared to exercise her civic responsibility.

“I have checked my name; it is on the register, and I am ready to vote. Hopefully, others will come out to do,” she said.

Meanwhile, residents of Oke Oriomi in Ado-Ekiti also began arriving at their polling units as early as 7 a.m. to verify their names on the voters’ register ahead of voting.

According to Punch, a visit to some polling centres showed voters trekking varying distances to participate in the election.

Security personnel were also deployed early across polling centres visited to maintain order and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
