Okpebholo Orders Probe Into Benin Market Kidnapping
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has condemned the reported kidnapping at the Vegetable Market along Airport Road, Benin City, describing it as unacceptable and a direct attack on innocent residents.
Naija News reports that the statement was signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr Patrick Akhere Ebojele, on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
The governor directed the Commissioner of Police in Edo State to immediately begin a swift and coordinated investigation into the incident.
He said the probe should lead to the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of those behind the attack.
Okpebholo warned that the Edo State Government would not tolerate any act that threatens public safety or disturbs the peace of the state.
The governor said his administration remained committed to protecting lives and property across Edo State.
Okpebholo urged residents of Benin City and other parts of the state to remain alert and report suspicious movements to the nearest police station.
He said timely information from members of the public would support ongoing police operations and improve security response.
The governor reaffirmed that the government would not relent until those responsible for the kidnapping were apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.
