Why I Stormed Out Of Alex Ekubo’s Service Of Songs After Mercy Chinwo Climbed The Pulpit – Daddy Freeze

Media personality, Daddy Freeze, has called out popular gospel singer Mercy Chinwo over her performance at the service of songs for late actor Alex Ekubo.

Naija News reports that Ekubo died on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40. His family confirmed that he died after a private battle with metastatic kidney cancer.

However, during an Instagram Live, Daddy Freeze argued that Chinwo’s performance turned what should have been a solemn, reflective ceremony into a high-energy concert.

He questioned her choice of upbeat songs, noting that a funeral or service of songs requires soft, comforting music rather than a lively musical showcase.

Furthermore, the media personality questioned the inclusion of various guest artists leading worship sessions at the event. He expressed that such traditional memorial services should rely primarily on hymns to maintain a respectful and serene atmosphere.

He said, “Mercy Chinwo climbed the pulpit and turned the place to concert at that point I got up and left. And here is my question, you are saying Daddy Freeze disobeyed the dress code, does mercy Chino not have soft music. Do you understand what a funeral is the kind of music that should be played at a funeral is soft music. They should have sang hymns. I would have been more moved if I had heard hymns.”
