Two Omisore Allies Resign From Osun APC

A former member of the House of Representatives, Ismaila Kolawole, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State.

Naija News reports that Kolawole, who represented Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 2007 and 2011, is an ally of a former APC National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore.

In his resignation letter dated June 7, Kolawole said he left the APC for “personal peace, inner mind rest and self-respect.”

Another chieftain of the party, Olajide Adeyeye, also announced his resignation from the APC. Adeyeye, a two-term member of the Osun State House of Assembly, represented Ife East State Constituency.

In his resignation letter addressed to the Moore Ward 1 chairman in Ile-Ife, Adeyeye said the decision was taken “after thorough consideration.”

He did not state any specific reason for leaving the party.

The development follows a recent wave of resignations by APC chieftains linked to Omisore.

Some of Omisore’s allies who recently left the party include Lekan Oyediran, Aleem Bakare, Folorunso Oladoyin, Jamiu Olawumi, Taiwo Akeju and Sunday Ojo-Williams.

Resignations Won’t Hurt Oyebamiji – APC

Reacting, the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, said those leaving the party wanted to create a false impression that the development would weaken the chances of the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Olabisi said, “What is playing out within the progressive party in the state is that God is answering the collective supplications of members and supporters of the party that those entities who would constitute a clog to the victory of our governorship candidate should fall by the wayside.

“We want to appeal to the ever-loyal members and highly committed supporters of our party that what we are witnessing in the political sphere in the state is not strange and is peculiar to election seasons.”

He said the resignations were expected and had already been considered in the party’s political calculations.

Olabisi added that Oyebamiji would not be distracted by what he called the “piecemeal resignation style” of a known group leaving the APC.

‘APC Bigger Than Individuals’

A chieftain of the APC in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, also said the defections would not affect the party’s chances in the August 15 governorship election.

He described defections as a regular feature of politics during election periods.

Oyintiloye said, “The APC in Osun is bigger than any individual or group of individuals. Our party is built on a solid foundation that has endured for decades. We have a resilient structure, loyal membership, and an ever-expanding support base across the state.

“Those who think the APC has been weakened by the exit of a few members are completely out of touch with the realities on the ground. The strength of our party resides in the people, and the people remain firmly with the APC.”

Oyintiloye said Oyebamiji’s emergence as the APC governorship candidate had boosted members’ morale and generated enthusiasm among voters.

He further stated, “Oyebamiji’s widespread acceptability, competence, humility, accessibility, and experience in public service have positioned him as the preferred choice of many voters.

“There is no community in Osun State today where the AMBO movement is not gaining momentum. The support he enjoys cuts across political affiliations, religious divides, age groups, and professional backgrounds. His popularity is organic and continues to grow daily.

“The truth is that no other candidate in the race currently commands the level of goodwill, credibility, acceptability, and political momentum that AMBO enjoys across the state.

“The people have identified with his vision, and they are eager to entrust him with the responsibility of leading Osun to greater heights.”
