I Am Leaving The Table – Iyabo Obasanjo Resigns From APC, Cites Humiliation

Former Ogun State governorship aspirant, Iyabo Obasanjo has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Daily Independent, Obasanjo’s decision was contained in a resignation letter dated May 31, 2026, and addressed to the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi.

Naija News reports that Obasanjo had earlier said that her supporters were denied access to the Ogun APC Caucus meeting that produced Senator Solomon Adeola as its consensus candidate.

Following her complaint, Adeola had paid a reconciliation visit to Obasanjo, and in return, she promised to support the party.

However, in the resignation letter, Obasanjo cited what she described as persistent disrespect, rejection and unfair treatment by the party leadership despite her loyalty and contributions.

She expressed disappointment over the party’s handling of her political aspirations and the treatment meted out to her supporters.

A famous person once said that when disrespect is the only dish served, then one should leave the table. I am therefore leaving the APC table where I am not welcomed. This is my resignation from the party,” Obasanjo emphasised.

She recalled her commitment to the party’s consensus arrangement during the governorship primary process, noting that she accepted the party’s decision in the interest of unity, even though the process was, in her view, flawed and failed to carry all aspirants along.

According to her, violence was allegedly used to prevent some of her supporters from accessing the venue where the consensus candidate was announced.

She further lamented that her presence and contributions were not acknowledged despite her extensive grassroots mobilisation efforts across Ogun State.

Obasanjo stated that after accepting the party’s chosen candidate, she and her supporters met with him and presented three requests.

However, she claimed that months later, no response had been received, describing the development as part of a broader pattern of neglect and disregard.

Despite her resignation, Obasanjo expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Yemi Sanusi and Ogun Central APC leaders for the courtesy and support they extended to her during her time in the party.
